Coming Up//OnPoint

I clearly have not been posting any artwork from this summer, as I haven't really been making much, I find it hard to create in my small apartment with no studio separate from my living area. However, I will be finishing my teaching certificate this Fall by student teaching at Beverly High School under Paula Borsetti and I am thrilled! I cannot wait to be back in school, something happens when you leave school, as an aspiring teacher, the classroom is where I love to be. So high school classes start in September!

Also, this past summer I have been working with Morgan Dyer through Montserrat College of Art's program called Art Connection. It is a program in which donated artwork from students, alumni and local artists is placed, free of charge in various non profit organizations around the north shore. One of those places is OnPoint, a program in Salem where kids on probation meet their probation officers, participate in actives, do community service and fulfill meeting requirements etc. Other children from the community often frequent the building on community day to do art, hang out in the back, and get free lunch through the free lunch program held behind the building.

It really is a great organization. They work with Salem Police and the Plummer Home for Boys to create a place where the kids who need to fulfull requirements for court, etc can have a place to do so. So, we were asked to hold an art class there weekly for those who'd like to participate, free of charge. Morgan and I came up with a few lessons, as you can see below. We did the class for 6 weeks , once a week, next week is our last week :-( ! Hopefully Montserrat will put two other art education majors at Onpoint during the school year and continue the program, as you can see the kids really had a lot of fun!

the first week we did splatter painting outside!

then we introduced the kids to Wassily Kandinsky and had them make their own little circle paintings (as you see, some did circles, some didn't)

the past three weeks the kids have been working on painting trash cans and recycling bins (we hope we can et some of them to donate them to OnPoint) We talked a little about throwing away trash and recycling in Salem.
